Wilkins Lake

  • Target Species: Stocked Rainbow Trout (seasonal), Largemouth Bass, Bluegill, Sunfish, Black Crappie, and Common Carp.
  • Boat Ramp: No trailer boat ramp. Motorized boats are strictly prohibited. It features excellent, easy-access bank fishing and a dedicated fishing pier/platform. Hand-carry paddleboards, canoes, or kayaks are permitted.
  • Restroom Facilities: Yes, public park restrooms are available on-site within Jim Barnett Park.
  • The Must-Knows: Located right adjacent to the Shenandoah University campus inside Jim Barnett Park. It is open daily from dawn to dusk. Because it is a spring-fed lake, it features cooler water pockets during hot summer months, giving you a surprise shot at late-season trout.
  • Jake’s Insider Parking Tip: Avoid parking in the dedicated Shenandoah University spots! Instead, park in the public lot next to the university tennis courts or near the basketball courts—there is a nice, flat, paved walking sidewalk that leads you straight down to the water’s edge.
